An upcoming Netflix crime thriller has an incredible surprise for all Game of Thrones fans, and all viewers who love the HBO fantasy franchise look forward to the Netflix series. Although Game of Thrones ended almost six years ago on a rather divisive note, it remains one of the biggest events on television, and its influence still lingers.
Since it ended in 2019, HBO has also expanded it into a full-fledged franchise by following it up with a prequel series, House of the Dragon. By the end of 2026, a second prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will have expanded the franchise's lore even further, diving deeper into the mythology that once captivated audiences across the globe.
Interestingly, Game of Thrones' upcoming spinoff is not the show fans of the franchise can look forward to. Netflix's new crime thriller is about to give Game of Thrones fans one thing they did not know they needed. Although the show in question has little to do with Game of Thrones, its casting choices make it exciting.
HOTD's Paddy Considine & GOT's Lena Headey Are Co-Starring In Netflix's Upcoming Crime Thriller Series
Cersei I Lannister and Viserys I Targaryen are easily two of the most recognizable characters in the Game of Thrones franchise. However, while Cersei has primarily appeared only in Game of Thrones, Viserys has predominantly been a House of the Dragon character.
Despite the many narrative overlaps between the two shows, Viserys and Cersei have never shared the screen. However, the actors who play the adult versions of two characters, Lena Headey and Paddy Considine, respectively, have now been cast as the leads in an upcoming Netflix crime thriller.
The upcoming show will be the first to feature a union between the two Game of Thrones stars and will be helmed by the creator, writer, and executive producer of Netflix's Black Mirror. Although most details surrounding the show are still under wraps, the untitled project has been described by the following logline (via Variety):
“profoundly serious, stunningly original crime thriller in which a tormented detective from the Northern city of Bleakford ventures down to London on a mission to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of people to kill.”
Netfilx's New Crime Thriller Sounds Like It'll Be Lena Headey's Biggest Series Since Game Of Thrones
Ever since his appearance in House of the Dragon, Paddy Considine has been a part of a few recognizable movie and TV projects. For instance, he played a part in Amazon Prime Video's Heads of State and even portrayed Kevin Harringan in 10 episodes of MobLand season 1.Lena Headey, in contrast, has not had a lot of leading roles since Game of Thrones ended.
She was a part of the roster of HBO's White House Plumbers, but the show arguably never garnered mainstream attention. Compared to White House Pumbers, the upcoming Netflix show also seems to have far more notable cast and crew members involved. Owing to this, it would be fair to say that the new Netflix thriller is her biggest television project since Game of Thrones.
