Netflix's New Korean Legal Show With Squid Game Star Becomes Instant Global Hit

Netflix's new Korean legal show with a Squid Game star in the leading role has become an instant global hit, ranking on the streamers' latest charts. Netflix's K-drama catalog has been growing in recent years, in part due to the success of shows like Squid Game. However, not every drama on the platform has been as dark and thrilling.

Some of the K-dramas on Netflix include ones that focus on more grounded stories. Both on the streamer and beyond, legal K-dramas are one of these subcategories, with shows like Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Law School garnering popularity and critical praise. However, there's one new legal drama that's starting to take over on the streaming platform not long after release.

Netflix's latest legal K-drama Beyond the Bar is already becoming a major success on the platform. The show stars Lee Jin-wook, who is best known for portraying Player 246 on the cast of Squid Game. Here, he plays Yoon Seok-hoon, an experienced lawyer who helps a newcomer in the field, Kang Hyo-min, excel at her job.Netflix reports Beyond the Bar has made it into the streamer's Top 10 non-English language shows for the week of July 28 to August 3, 2025. The series came in at Number 10 worldwide, with 3.1 million watch hours from 1.8 million viewers. It's in the Top 10 of six countries: South Korea, Singapore, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Venezula.

Our Take On Beyond The Bar's Early Streaming Success

Beyond the Bar started airing on August 2, with two new episodes dropping every Saturday and Sunday on Netflix until the show ends. It will have 12 episodes total, with episodes 3 and 4 arriving on August 9 and 10 respectively. The show has earned high live viewership in South Korea as well, ranking Number 1 on Nielsen ratings nationwide.

While it's too early to say whether this will become known as one of the best legal K-dramas for audiences, the show has presented an intriguing premise so far with stellar performances. It makes sense as to why it's managed to eek its way onto Netflix's Top 10, something it can continue to maintain as new episodes come out.

Since there's still five weekends of releases left, it's possible Beyond the Bar will continue to perform well on the platform if the show maintains its audience. Thanks to its distribution by Netflix worldwide, it just might be able to do so. And, with Lee Jin-wook at the forefront, it could get a boost thanks to his Squid Game popularity.
