All Sci-Fi Fans Should Watch This 4-Season Thriller That Topped Netflix Charts

Airing on NBC and later Netflix from 2018 to 2023, the underrated mystery box TV show Manifest became a streaming favorite for a reason. With elements of the thriller, sci-fi, and mystery genres, Manifest carved out a unique place for itself on TV, investing in its ensemble cast and building tension around the burning central question.

All Sci-Fi Fans Should Watch This 4-Season Thriller That Topped Netflix Charts

This question revolved around what happened to the passengers on a seemingly normal flight that goes missing for five years, only to reappear suddenly. However, from the perspective of the people onboard, no time has passed at all. Following the lives of the passengers and their loved ones, Manifest is a TV show I miss coming up with theories for.

While there are plenty of sci-fi TV shows that are canceled too early, there are also those that provide enough intrigue and excitement to make fans fight for their continuation. Manifest grows more complex and unbelievable as the story progresses, but even when the twists are shocking, it's impossible to stop watching the thrilling series.

Manifest Is A Mystery Box Show Full Of Twists And Turns

Manifest Will Keep Audiences To The Very End

Fans of Once Upon a Time will recognize series lead Josh Dallas, who played Prince Charming in the fantasy show. In Manifest, he brings to life the character Ben Stone, one of the people onboard the mysterious plane at the heart of the story. However, he's only one piece of the complex puzzle of Manifest, which introduces additional supernatural elements.

Manifest is often compared to Lost, and the shows do have plenty of similarities.

Though Manifest is often compared to Lost, and the shows do have plenty of similarities, the series distinguished itself in the final seasons. When it comes to mystery box TV shows, it can be difficult for the writers and showrunners to continue making the series as thrilling and surprising as possible, but Manifest sets itself up for success.

Every season of Manifest brings something new to the table, allowing the characters and story to evolve with the times. While the supernatural and sci-fi elements do propel the story, it's the characters that the viewer is most invested in, which is the mark of a show that's worth investing in long-term, beyond the original premise.

Manifest Was Brought Back From Cancellation To Get A Proper Ending

It's not uncommon for a work of sci-fi or fantasy to be canceled early, but luckily for Manifest, after NBC dropped the show following season 3, it was renewed for a final outing by Netflix (via The Hollywood Reporter). This gave Manifest the opportunity to wrap up its storylines and give audiences the satisfying ending they deserved.

Though it would have been nice for Manifest to continue past season 4, it was thanks to the overwhelming performance of the series after it was first added to Netflix that the show got to continue at all. This wasn't the first time that a show's streaming success has proven to networks that there's a strong audience invested in what happens to the characters.
